Exiting
changes for 2010!
Based on feedback from parents, players, managers and trainers,
the club is excited to announce the following changes to the
program:
-
Cost
dropped to $250 for existing players, $330 if new to the
club.
-
Only
competitive teams, picked by independent evaluators will be
formed.
-
No
more mandated weekend AAU tournaments. Instead, managers
will arrange scrimmages, leagues and tournaments based on
player availability.
-
Emphasis
on training by Northern Highlands' Varsity and JV coaches.
With
training by Highlands' Varsity and JV coaches, this is the
club for future Northern Highlands players.
The
Highlands
Basketball Club brings together keen basketball
players from the four Northern Highlands High
School feeder towns of Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Saddle River and
Upper Saddle River. The teams are formed by grade
(basically according to AAU rules) - selected from the four towns.
Teams train with Highlands' Varsity and JV coaches at least once a
week in town gyms.
Traditional AAU clubs require a
substantial commitment, usually with two practices per week and about
12 tournaments over the spring and fall – which is more than what
most of our multi-sport athletes want. The Highlands Basketball Club instead concentrates on training and limited
game play.
The teams are formed by grade
(basically according to AAU rules) - selected from the four towns. “Out-of-town”
players will only be added if a team is short. Training will be at least once a week in town
gyms by Northern Highlands' Varsity and JC coaches and for the main part they'll also coach games.
Team managers will arrange scrimmages, tournaments and/or league play
based on player availability.
Total cost is approximately $350 per season.
Due to the competitive nature of AAU
games, equal playing time is not assured to every player. However, the
program is intended to primarily be developmental and every effort
will be made to insure that players get roughly equal playing time
over the course of a season.
